New GST rates on household items set to strain your kitchen budget from Monday
New Delhi, July 17
Prices of several household items like packed curd, lassi, buttermilk, paneer, wheat and rice will go up while bank services and hospital room rent will become costlier from Monday after the GST rates were hiked for several items in the 47th Goods and Services Tax meeting in Chandigarh last month.
Products like curd, lassi, buttermilk, paneer, wheat, rice etc., which are pre-packaged and labelled, will attract GST of 5 per cent from July 18.
In its 47th meet, the GST Council chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has withdrawn exemptions from taxation on these items. Now, these products will have a GST rate from the current nil.
GST of 18 per cent will be imposed on roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plant and crematorium.

Curd, Lassi, Buttermilk and Paneer
Jaggery of all types
Natural Honey
Rice, Wheat, Rye, Barley, Oats
Wheat amp; Meslin Flour
Tender coconut water (12% GST)
Other daily use items
LED lamps, ink, knives, blades, pencil sharpener, metal printed circuits board (18%)
Power-driven pumps, bicycle pumps, dairy machinery (18%)
Agro machines (18%)
Cheques (18%)
Solar water heater (12%)
Room rent, except ICU, over Rs 5,000 per day (5%)
Government works contract for earthwork (12%)
