US weekly jobless claims fall; layoffs surge in January

The US Labor Department reported that claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 3,000 to 183,000 for the week ended January 28. The government also reported that there were 11 million job openings at the end of December, with 1.9 openings for every unemployed person. https://ift.tt/s3KX9d4
